PMA GUILD & DOCENT ASSOCIATIONS
The PMA Guild and Docents, open to all Museum Association Members, is
a vital, integral part of the Museum which provides volunteers to assist
the PMA in its efforts to promote public awareness and appreciation of
visual arts. Guild members serve at the reception, host receptions and
special events, hold fundraisers and lend assistance to the Museum staff,
while Docents concentrate on the Museum's educational outreach.
THE PMA GUILD ASSOCIATION
Membership in the PMA Guild is open to all members of the Pensacola Museum
of Art, membership dues are $20.
Guild Association Mission
To provide volunteers in assisting the efforts of the Museum to increase
knowledge and further enrich our lives with a better understanding of
the visual arts; To promote membership contributions for the continuation
and growth of the Museum; To maintain and help add to the permanent collection;
To support and promote various exhibits and hands-on programs of the Museum.
These purposes are achieved in a variety of ways: by informing our members
on programs by publishing a monthly newsletter, hosting receptions, holding
fundraisers to support the work of the Museum, sponsoring workshops and
trips to other museums and special events, working on joint ventures with
the PMA Board of Trustees and lending assistance to the staff. Monthly
meetings are held on the third Tuesday from September to May. Morning
coffees or luncheons include interesting and informative programs. The
PMA Guild cordially invites you to join with us in our effort to promote
the enjoyment of the visual arts. For more information conact Sandi Gentry
at the PMA.
THE PMA DOCENT ASSOCIATION
Membership in the PMA Docent Association is open to all members of the
Pensacola Museum of Art.
What Do Docents Do?
Docents, acting in an educational capacity, typically perform four primary
roles:
CONDUCT
tours at the PMA for various groups that visit;
PRESENT
a trunk to a group (typically in a classroom setting);
PARTICIPATE
in PMA's Outreach Programs within the community; and
ASSIST
with Exhibition Preparation (when a new exhibit is installed)
What Does It Take To Be A Docent?
A first class docent is one who possesses an enthusiasm for the visual
arts, a love of learning and teaching, flexibility, and a sense of humor.
Training is provided, so you can feel comfortable in performing these
roles.
What Are The Benefits?
There are several benefits: personal reward and satisfaction gained
in helping others to learn about and appreciate art, the enjoyment experienced
and education achieved during a training session or when on one of our
Docent field trips, and friendships with those of similar interests.
How Do I Get Started?
